Depends. If it's Vanilla ice cream, then nearly anything goes...

If it's a mint type flavor, then a chocolate topping...

Since my favorite ice cream flavor is Chocolate Chip Mint, I'd have to go with chocolate sauce, even though I think ice cream is best eaten by itself. But, with non-mint ice cream, I'm also fond of marshmallow or butterscotch topping.

I would have to say it would depend on what sort of ice cream, the main ones I usually eat are vanilla, neopolitan and mint choc chip, usually if it's vanilla then I usually have either chocolate or strawberry sauce with hundred and thousands, if it's neopolitan or mint choc chip I usually just eat it alone.

Mallow, all the way. But hot fudge is a close contender. Third place goes to a peanut butter-chocolate syrup that hardens into a shell, adding flavor and texture. I find when I am craving something cold and sweet hot fudge can turn even soft serve it to the perfect treat. I apologize the term soft serve is a sort of blasphemy on an ice cream lovers site.

Fudge sauce, by which I mean sauce that will harden like fudge when it hits the cold ice cream.
And butterscotch sauce. light brown sugar, little butter, a little cream and vanilla.
Colored sugar(Love the crunch), rhubarb sauce, maple syrup and Raspberry sauce and fresh raspberries over chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
