Pint of Ice Cream Phillipine Ice Cream Fit For A Pope

From The New York Daily News:http://www.nydailynews.com/news/worl...icle-1.2084087
Pope Francis treated to ice cream during flight from Philippines to Rome

The Philippines Airlines flight was stocked with three flavors of Carmen’s Best Ice Cream: pistachio, malted milk and brown butter almond brittle. The makers said they would have made dulce de leche, the 78-year-old’s favorite, had they known he’d be on the jet. During his five-day Philippines trip, the sweet-toothed Pope also enjoyed sponge cake, crepes and chocolate soufflé.

We all scream for ice cream — and that includes the Pope.
Three flavors of ice cream were served onboard Pope Francis’ plane Monday as he traveled home to Rome after a five-day visit to the Philippines.
Carmen’s Best Ice Cream, a beloved Philippines treat brand, supplied the papal flight with cartons of pistachio, malted milk and brown butter almond brittle, reported the Rappler, a Philippines news site.
But the company had no idea who would be onboard the plane when Philippines Airlines placed the order, ice cream maker Paco Magsaysay said.
“I thought the Pope had his own plane going and going out, like a special Vatican plane,” he said.
Alessandra Tarantino/AP Fabio Martino's ice cream parlour in Cassano allo Jonio, Italy, serves up 'Pope flavored' ice cream (actually Mascarpone cheese and strawberry) in June.
Magsaysay only learned about the papal passenger after he was en route to deliver the frozen treats to the jet. If the staff knew they were serving Francis, they would have altered their order.
“I did soon find out that he loves dulce de leche and I would have made him a dulce de leche ice cream,” Magsaysay said.
It’s not clear which flavor the pope sampled on his trip home — or if he might has snagged a tatse of all three.
While the 78-year-old from Argentina maintains a mostly simple diet, he also has a sweet tooth. During the Pope’s Philippines trip, he enjoyed sponge cake, crepes and chocolate soufflé, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
Alessandra Tarantino/AP The Italian ‘Pope flavor’ ice cream was not served on Francis' Monday flight. Instead, he was offered malted milk, pistachio and brown butter almond brittle.
A day before the Pope’s sweet plane ride home, Francis capped off his visit with a Sunday ceremony at a Catholic university in Manila.
Pope Francis was nearly moved to tears during the ceremony when a 12-year-old girl took the stage to ask why God lets children suffer.
“There are many children neglected by their own parents," Glyzelle Palomar, who used to live on the strees, said as she wept. "Why is God allowing such things to happen, even if it is not the fault of the children?"
The Pope embraced Glyzelle after the ceremony and focused on children during a sermon later in the day, CNN reported.
The trip marked first time a Pope has visited the Philippines, home to the third largest catholic population in the world, in 20 years.
